Hello, i am from Czech republic, so please apologize for writing in English. I have been searching this comics for really long time and have already collected whole czech issues. Admin is helping me to find the Greek edition and asked me to write some facts about this great comic book
There are many funny facts about Cloverleaf (in czech Čtyřlístek). It was probably not that well recieved in Greece and it is also, why it did not continue and only some issues were published there. But it was very special here in Czechoslowakia and is still great memory of many children from time before 1989, it means during comunism. The issues are being published since 1969 till today. The latest issue is 652. However, i personally like the issues before 1989 much better. The stories were quite different. The most funny are the names of the four friends: Pinďa, Fifinka, Bobík and Myšpulín. It is probably hard to understand this, but their names stand for not-rude child nicknames for penis, vagina, poo and only Myšpulín does not have any such meaning. It was probably a trick, how to prevent comunist press to push for the comics to include any ideology, because it would be hard to make Bobík become a pioneer. The comic book was on the edge of tolerance from comunism and also in many issues there were stories involving western phenomena like cowboys, indians, foreign cars etc. The author, Mrs. Štípolová even had to write the stories under pseudonym, because of being on index of unwanted writers. The issues was printed by something like an association, not official press house and they had to constantly beg for color and paper from central authority.. That is why some issues are very rare, because the print was not the best quality or got lost and today the value of complete collection increases. Sometimes they had to complete issues manually and these are even more precious. For me and friends of age around 40 years it is really strong memory. It is assumed that there are only cca 200-300 complete collections in godd quality, although the issue volume was 50 thousand at the beginning in 1969 and in late 80's it reached 300 thousand. Many people burned or threw away individual issues, because they got worn.. Today there is a hunt for the issues and very lively exchange between collectors. The phenomena of Ctyrlistek grew so much, that in early 80's communist finaly acknowledged it and even tried to export it and Greece was probably the first try. However it ended with this try.
