Another factor for their unwillingness to publish it in Greek, is of course, the perennial best seller that this release is. They probably think that the Greek market is saturated regarding this subject and I cannot blame them, despite the opportunity for a different take that I see here. :)

Yes, if a somewhat similar work is already in the market then its understandable.

    You are so welcome :)

Well, Middle English (with a twist :)don't really work in today's world and it certainly doesn't convay the spirit of Aristophanes' work. It was just an effort to familiarize 19th century readers (actually, old theater audiences, Drury Lane enthusiasts :D  ) with the Classics.

Will gladly help if you e-mail me the original English text and, if you have one, the Greek original the translation was based on. Will PM you my addy and we can take it from there.

Like I said, you won't find a Greek publishing house willing to publish any comic books in English - been dealing with them for over 40 years. Your best chance lies with English-speaking countries, like the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. Wish you every luck! Please check your PM Inbox.

I supposed the greek editors would understand that the version they would publish would be in greek of course. Should i have stated that in my emails?XD
I can't pay you with money since i'm dirty poor and hellbent on doing unprofitable comics:p, but i can make a drawing of you in ancient greek garb as payment.
    I'll email you then.

First of all, a huge applaud for your effort which surely constitutes an honor to our country.

Second of all, I really enjoyed your exquisite drawings. I wish I could say the same for the English translation which could be a lot better. Your English is fine, which means a) someone else did the translation and/or b) the translator stuck to the permutations and esoteric nuances of the language (in this case, Greek), avoiding a more meaningful English adaptation. Being bilingual, I am willing to help you, free of charge, if you intend to publish this in English because I really believe it pays tribute to Greek literature and history.

Third of all, if you intend to publish this in Greece, you’ll need a Greek text – a modern Greek text at that. Have you found someone with the required dexterity to do it? Greek publishing houses are not really interested in publishing a comic book in English, no matter what.

Woa, thanks. The honor is mine too since i'm illustrating a great writer from the past.
The english is mine only in the footnotes, the translation i used is the classic english one: http://classics.mit.edu/Aristophanes/eccles.pl.txt
It's true that it might be failing in transmitting the proper ideas, i can't tell since i cant read the original greek text, if you indeed think you can improve on that translation i'd appreciate it a lot. What i like about this current english translation is  a certain old english tone since it was made 100 years ago or so and it somewhat fits as a classic theater play.
I sent the project to various greek editors but barely got any feedback, only one answered to say he wasnt interested and another one that randomly added me on facebook but said nothing about the project:p... so there won't be a greek version in paper probably but we can do a digital one for the internetz, it would be a shame if there wasnt.
As to other countries i mailed a lot of comic editors from all over the world but only got positive responses from a couple of portuguese ones. But even if they publish it, portuguese editions are very low in book count so this wont be profitable at all,  i wanted to do Euripides 'The Bacchantes' next but since this one wont reach a modicum of profitability i'll probably only make this one.
This comic is in a tough spot since comic publishers dont like this type of subject and regular book publishers dont want comics.

That said, your help with the english version is very welcome because i'll share it with the internet regardless of it having a physical version or not.

Check  this  list, you'll find all of the greek publishing houses both defunct and operational (check the title of each one to see if they're shut down or not).

On top of each thread when you click on it you'll find contact information.

    :alex:

Thanks, i'll try some of those :)

    Hello there!

Your work is splendidly done, your artstyle is actually unique and I'd love to read the whole story! There aren't many greek publishers out there, but perhaps you can contact WebComics, a greek company with a great variety of themes. You'll have to fill this form though: http://webcomics.gr/?page_id=129

Good luck with your project and be sure that I'll check the final product out!

Thank you:}, i emailed that publisher.

I like the comic adaptation of the Ecclesiazusae play. It's interesting and I like the artwork. Well done! :)

  6. Hi, i'm a Portuguese artist and i'm doing a comic version of the Ecclesiazusae play.

In case you dont know it, its a comedy play where women gain political power and install communal style politics applied to goods and sex. It then explores the reactions of the characters to that new situation. There is no consensus on whether Aristophanes is urging Athens to have more cosmopolitan spirit and less individualism or the opposite, it's up to the readers to interpret and i like it that way.

It's a direct adaptation, it's Aristophanes text, i just cut some redundant parts.

I have shown it to some international Comic editors but they aren't as exited about this as i am, they care more about manbats and manspiders than Aristophanes but i thought that at least in Greece this might get people interested.

So i'd like to ask you for contacts of Greek publishers that might like this.

Here are the pages so far:

You can help the project directly too through: Patreon   or   paypal
I'll upload the pages as i make them to my Patreon and it will be public so you can follow the project there even if you can't support. Also i'll make the comic for the internet even if i get no publisher. I'll do it in the following months.
